Unfortunately I don't agree...my biggest memory of 'Caves' was when the BBC decided to repeat a 'story' from each of the Doctors in about 1992 (might have been 1993). I was born in 1981 and my parents always watched Doctor Who every week, so I had vague memories of various Davison stories, but nothing really stood out in my mind. The Fifth Doctor story that was repeated during that year was 'Caves' and because I only had vague recollections of his time as Doctor Who when I was growing up, this was the first real, solid story of his that I had to go on, and I thought that watching it in 'isolation' made it even better than if I'd watched it after the previous stories. I was totally blown away (as an 11/12 year old). However, having seen lots of his stuff since then (though perhaps not as much as you guys), I'm still convinced that it's brilliant on its own, without having seen everything else...I'm really tired and still a bit ill at the moment so I can't explain it very well but it's just so intense and even though the prior stories would inform The Doctor's course of action in 'Caves', I think that the characters interact really well and the development works even when viewed alone.

(again, apologies if any of this is incoherent...recovering from bad cold and flu...)
