Yes, I can see how it might be a bit better if you are more deeply invested in the ongoing character development of the Doctor and Peri than I was. There were definitely some quite intense moments for the Doctor, which I did enjoy. Sharaz Jek, though, just seemed like a bit too much of a knock-off of the Phantom of the Opera to me. Although I did think his mask was quite cool.
