My opinion of 'City of Death' has actually improved since I first saw it. I hated every moment of the 1979-80 season, from the dreadful 'Destiny of the Daleks', through to the embarrassing 'Horns of the Nimon'. I probably tarred 'City' with the same brush. Whereas others, I suspect, seized on that fact that it was better than everything else that year, and that and the Douglas Adams connection has raised its status. I now go with considering it okay, but three years earlier it would have been an also-ran.
I think I've told you my opinion of Davison - lots of potential, but 10-20 years too young for the role. But he's your Doctor, which I sure makes you forgive him a lot, just as I forgive Pertwee stories, because he's my Doctor, even though on a rational assessment the early Tom Baker stories are superior. I did like 'Earthshock' (not least for the genuine surprise at the end of episode 1). 'Resurrection of the Daleks' gets a lot of stick these days, which perhaps it doesn't deserve, though bringing Davros back was a mistake.
