I read this back in University after catching part of the film on TV. From my point of view, it was more interesting for the girls' school theme--having read numerous books in that theme aimed at school-age girls, it was fascinating to read the tropes deconstructed for an adult audience. I must re-read actually. It's been awhile.
The only other book by Muriel Spark I have is the Comforters which gets more into surreal territory (I can't recall for certain, but I believe it's her first novel). I also thoroughly enjoyed this, although my memory of the plot is pretty hazy now. Another one for the re-read list!
