The anecdata I have from polling in my constituency suggests that the "Vote Lib Dem Get Conservative / Labour" messages promulgated by the media and Labservatives were viciously effective. There were many people telling me that they supported the Lib Dems but had voted for one of the big two to keep the other out.

I'm pretty certain that we would have come first in my constituency under AV.
