The cathedral in the original story is St Bavon in Ghent- a real place- which is peculiar because ghost stories are usually set in fictional or fictionalised places.

You know, I noticed the short story was set explicitly in Belgium, but I still assumed the cathedral was fictional for exactly that reason. Is any of the art real?

None of this is particularly relevant to the discussion but I wanted to get in my two penn'orth about Aickman- whom I adore- because how often does one get the chance?
