Yes, Mary's stepmother was clearly quite a character, and now you come to mention her I seem to remember that she had changed identity a couple of times before she joined the Godwin household to capture various different husbands and then disavow all connection with them afterwards. So she is quite a good model for Carmilla's mother actually!
