Book purists... Yeah, I guess what has really irritated me amongst all the 'discourse' around this new adaptation is how closely book purism seems to be tied to straightforward reactionism. That is, the people who are most loudly insisting the new version is a travesty because it doesn't follow the book all too often seem to start talking about its 'PC agenda', 'SJW issues' and how they don't want a 'woke Dracula' a few sentences later. I have seen all of this repeatedly in FB groups pretty much ever since the new version started being trailed, and it is really starting to get my goat. Indeed, just as there's nothing which makes me want to cheer on young women taking selfies more than a Moffat and Gatiss story-line about how foolish and vain they are, there's also nothing that makes me want to leap straight to Moffat and Gatiss' defence like a bunch of tedious old men going on about their 'PC agenda'!

Anyway, have you heard that Mark Gatiss will be starring in a Big Finish audio play called Dracula's Guests, out in February? Maybe that will be more to your tastes, as the audio medium is bound to limit how much gore they can convey (and also Gatiss didn't write the script for it anyway). I'm certainly going to check it out.
