Yes, it's amazing what a difference any kind of creative work's pre-established reputation can have on how much we enjoy it, isn't it? Recommendations can help us find the material we'll enjoy, but they can also be counter-productive: too much hype about how great something is and we're disappointed; too much panning and we find it surprisingly enjoyable.
That said, I must read the novelisation (which I think I might even have a copy of that I haven't read), because you're not the first person I've heard recommending it. Hopefully in this case that won't result in too much disappointment on my part!
