Face of Boe poll

Because this week is seeming ever so long, especially for a girl who at the worst case scenario won't actually get to see this weekend's episode until the evening of the following Friday - a poll about the true identity of the Face of Boe to keep us going:

[Poll #1007209]

and RTD seems to have ignored the existance of davros.....

Well, he could just be saving him. You never know!

davros would mean *more* darleks

please god no

ya, as much as I love the daleks, I think they've been done to death in the new series

[identity profile] parhelion-spark.livejournal.com 2007-06-21 10:50 am (UTC)(link)
Nonsense, that's just for when he's run out of other well known villains to toss in!

And yes, another excuse for more daleks. He does so love those.

I stand by the option that the Emperor Dalek was Davros

oh come *on* now

davros has always been a different character the the emperor dalek/dalek prime

that the silverster mccoy one yeah?

if memory serves it was the renegade daleks lead by the emperor/dalek prime and the imperial lead by davros......

The Renegade Daleks were lead by a Black "Prime Dalek" however the Imperial Daleks were lead by "the Emperor." In particular, when the Daleks say (paraphrasing), "Emperor on the Bridge"

Therefore - Emperor = Davros

lets look up stuff on wikipedia shall we?

These should not be confused with the "Emperor Dalek" (note the word reversal) in Remembrance of the Daleks.

even though I didn't get the words the right way round note that fact that simply stated that dalek prime and davros were never portrayed to be the same person

Frankly, I see nothing within that article, except for a minor statement that the words are reversed to conclude that the two characters are mutually exclusive.

And that argument is a rather flimsy justification

seriously?

if memory serves, dalek prime/dalek emperor is latter day name taken by the dalek who shot davros in the tom baker one where the go and whitness the creation of the daleks

hence different people - the only reason the imperial daleks, in the serial you mentioned, called their leader "emperor" was to throw a curved ball so that the viewer thought that davos was in charge of the renagades rather than the imperials and that the thing that turned out to be the girl in the black chair with a dalek helmet on was davros - which really got me hook line and sinker when I first saw it.........

not only that, but the doctor has always shown the ability to recognise davros and address him by that name - which he didn't do in the parting of the ways

also that emperor dalek seems to resemble the emperor dalek from a previous story (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/f/fc/Dalekemperor.jpg/275px-Dalekemperor.jpg), rather than any previous form of davros

I take that is a less flimsey argument ;)

I'll have to review Genesis of the Daleks for the first item.

However the Doctor does not address Davros as Davros in Remembrance until after he reveals himself to the viewer and the Doctor. Nor, would I note has Davros' identity ever otherwise been in doubt.

And, given the bronze finish of the new series, I would say that this (http://www.whoniverse.org/pictures/dalek_emperor_imperial.jpg) is a stronger resemblance. :)

what i ment was that the existance of of an immovable dalek who is connected to his computers by wires is more dalek emperor rather than davros - we all know that fasion contious daleks change their outfit over time anyway ;)

and the way I see the silvester mccoy/davros conversation was that the doctor knoew he was davros (which is why he asks him to reveal his true self - bare with me if I'm wrong - I havn't seen it since it was first on bbc 1) but dosn't call him as such purly as a plot device so that we the viewer thinks the child in the chair is davros - does that make sence?

by the by penny - is this discussion ok on yer le jay? let me know if it irritates and we can take it to email of something ;)

No, it's cool - healthy debate is good, so long as you don't get snarky with each other! Bless you for asking, though. :-)
