On a less cheery note...

Lord Tebbit this morning on the Today programme, on the subject of gay marriage (a topic which he had crow-barred into a discussion actually meant to be on obesity):

"We've got a huge problem with AIDS, and the government is doing all it can to promote buggery"

I don't quite know what happened after he said this, because I was too busy gawping and saying 'Oh my god, I can't believe he just said that!' (the effect of my incredulity being enhanced by the fact that he had obviously come on the programme determined to slip this 'gem' in, whether it was relevant to the discussion or not). So if anyone knows how John Humphries handled it, or how Boris Johnson (the other interviewee) responded, I would love to know!

I missed that particular joy this morning - probably just as well..

Must have been in the shower - or still too busy gawping from when John Reid said that it was OK to have Burger King restaurants in hospitals (yes, really) because we have to defend people's 'choices' in what they eat.

That really is quite idiotic of him! At a purely scientific level, surely gay marriage would promote *monogamy* and thus *reduce* the risk of HIV propagation! Silly man!

From the BBC's marvellous listen again facility:

That was fantastic, and I'm glad I missed it or I may have passed my last seconds in this life laughing hysterically as I ploughed into the central reservation on the M8. Even Boris Nice But Dim (who, incidentally, is my favourite politician at the moment) sounds taken aback.

I love it when aging, crusty old right-wing dinosaurs put their cards on the table like this. Not only does it amuse me greatly, but, I fondly hope, pushes me and any reasonable people listening well away from letting that bunch of *rses back in.

That, by the way, is why I like Tory-boy Boris so much: the man is a buffoon, and if I thought it would lend me any influence, I'd almost be tempted to join tht Tory party just to put my weight behind getting him in as the next party leader.

It defies parody, although I'm sure that Chris Morris would have a stab.

Thank you so much, Ryszard!

*wipes tears of laughter from eyes*

That whole clip is very special. Seriously, everyone must listen!
