Obviously Tam Lin-ish, but by the sounds of it quite Wicker Man-ish too. I take it you'd recommend it?

Hugely. It may be my favorite retelling of Tam Lin and I don't know why I don't see it more often included in discussions of folk horror, because it was published in 1974 and revolves around the fire sacrifice of a year-king to the old gods of the land. The first time I saw The Wicker Man, I thought of it at once. It's beautifully written, too, in one of those unostentatious ways.
