When you go to save a file, and accidentally choose the neighbouring option, 'Close', from the 'File' menu instead, please do not then go on to select the button labelled 'No' from the idiot prompt which pops up. You see, it does not mean "Noooo! That's not what I wanted to do!", but (and if you read the text above it, you will see that I am right), "No, I do not want to save all the work I've done in the last half hour."

The button you want is 'Cancel'. You twit.

Keyboard shortcuts ftw! They're much easier to get to than mousing around all over the place, and you're significantly less likely to hit the wrong item and screw things up.
AFAIK the standard for Word is Ctrl-S to save, or you can open the file menu using shortcuts by hitting Alt-F, then S to save (or C to close).

Yes, you're quite right, and this had occurred to me too after I did this. It's a question of changing my habits - and believe me, I am very motivated to do so right now!

I have the problem when using shortcuts that, on a mac, I keep pressing Apple Q instead of W, which means I quit the program instead of just shutting the window, so I'm trying to do the opposite and actually click.

Oh blimey! Yes, I can see where keyboard shortcuts are a bad thing in that situation!
