Wow - the whole of Warwick University seems to have disappeared from the internet. Every time I try to go to any of their pages, I'm told the server can't be found. That's got to be a pretty serious balls-up, right? I'm now having visions of turning up there at the end of the Easter vacation to find nothing but a charred field of smoking ruins, a few papers fluttering pathetically in the post-nuclear breeze. And, of course, nobody could have told me, because they're all dead! Waaah!

I escaped the destruction!

It was a zombie invasion - there are bodies rising from the dead all over Claycroft and a plucky band of survivors still hold out in University House!

Seriously though, there has been a major power cut on campus. My colleague (I am actually on hols at the moment so consider this free comment) informs me that they have only just got lighting and heating back.

Everything should be back on shortly.

Ah, thanks for the insider info. But who are you? An unlogged-in [livejournal.com profile] keris? Or some friendly passing stranger?

Bugger! If my girlfriend is now a radioactive mutant zombie I shall be most put out.

Don't trust her when she gets home unless she can prove she's still human! Offer her some rabbit brains, and see what happens.

Shes just got in, and passed the test, and also to tell you that there are notices up saying that despite everyone being a mutant zombie you should still come in to work on Monday (Which makes me suspicous that perhaps the test wasn't entirely foolproof)

Yes, I'm fine, and I passed the test as bunnies are evil. Mmmmm tasty [livejournal.com profile] davefish brains...

(that wasn't me this morning, I didn't have any internet access all day. Us physicists had to rebuild the entire place. We decided to set in motion some new physical laws too, so don't worry if your students start floating next term)

Floating students? Well, I suppose it means we can fit more of them into the lecture theatres!

As long as the Finance & Salaries office managed to clear your pay through BACS before the device went off, then no problemo. ;)

Hmm - actually, I don't think I have been paid for March yet. Well, I can just wander over the desolate site, picking up my salary's worth in abandoned drawing-pins and staples, I suppose...

There was a fire in a substation somewhere, which took out the electricity for half of the university (my half), Cannon Park, the A45 traffic lights and as far out as Earlsdon. When the power came back on again, the main electrical circuits for the servers frazzled and they've spent all day trying to get that working. When I left they were starting to get some servers back online and I think things are starting to work again now. There were notices up over campus explaining this and saying staff should still come in on Monday, even if they can't do any work as they're on the tree...

Yes, I've been able to get into my email account now, so it seems things are starting to function again. I wasn't planning to come in on Monday anyway, as I'm just working from home all vacation. But how cute that they resorted to paper notices in the absence of being able to send out mass emails! Awww...

Warwick IT service

Hi! As a student from Warwick I can confirm that the uni is still there, but in my opinion the IT services shouldn't be... Okay, this time I acknowledge that it wasn't the IT services fault (as you'll see on the website which is now working: http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/insite) but the amount of times I have phoned the IT service and complained and ranted on and on about various problems is countless...

Anyway, apart from that, the uni is a lovely place and I hope the weather is good when you're there. Make sure you take a walk around the lakes. And feed the ducks. ;-)

Oh, believe me, I'm no fan of Warwick's IT service. I've had trouble with them before, when my computer breaks and they say someone will come and have a look at it 'within the next 24 hours'. No good, when I have a lecture to deliver in 3 hours and I can't get at my notes!

BTW, it's lovely to see you all here, but any idea how come so many people outside my normal readership seem to be finding this post? It's rare for me to get any anonymous comments on my posts at all, let alone two on one entry. Just curious.

Hi again,

I'm actually a final year undergraduate, studying Biochemistry. Just randomly came across here when searching blogs for "warwick university". ;-) (things I do when I should be revising...)
