You know, academia is pretty hard work sometimes. But out of term time, it does have distinct advantages. Such as that you can look out of your window, observe that the current weather conditions are unfit for a dog, and say, "Stuff it, I'm staying home today!"

Pile of essays I've been avoiding - your time has come!

Aha, a Flanders & Swann quote - excellent! :-)

It's not so bad here, but is threatening to get worse rapidly.

Me too! my favourite one is the one about the cannibal who won't eat people.

I wish I could've stayed at home today : (

Hee - yes, that's a corker, too.

Are you into Tom Lehrer as well? I have loads of his stuff on CD if you'd like some burnt for you.

I've never actually heard of Tom Lehrer so I'd be interested in hearing some of his stuff. if you wouldn't mind doing me a cd that would be fantastic.

His main job was actually as a professor of Maths at Harvard, but he also became a successful comic singer-songwriter (accompanying himself on the piano) in the 60s. His lyrics are rather more political, cynical and controversial than F&S's (to the extent that some of his songs couldn't be released commercially until the more liberal 1990s), but if you like them, it's fairly certain you'll like him.

Will bring a CD when I come round to see 'M'!

Ace! Thanks. it sounds just like the sort of thing my mum would like as well, it was her who introduced me to flanders and swann.

Ack! I just went to do this, but I can't find my Lehrer CDs anywhere - and I know I have at least three! They're not the only CDs of mine that are missing, so I think there must be a stash of them somewhere in some box I haven't bothered to unpack. (There are a couple like that!) I guess the CDs will appear after the next house move - so the best bet is if you remind me of this after it's done. Sorry in the meantime, though...

Yeah, that's the problem, isn't it? So tempting!

I have been marking like a good girl ever since I made this post, though. (Except for now, obviously...)

It may well be unfit for a dog, but that didn't stop me battling the wind and rain at 6:35am taking my two dogs for a walk!

Poor old Max (the fluffy one in the icon) kept getting knocked sideways as he walked along.

There's very little dog under all the long hair though - he weighs just under 20kg. Looks very silly when he's wet :)
