I has a sofa!
Wednesday, 25 July 2007 19:41Those were a busy few days, then. My ever-generous parents have been here since Sunday morning, lending their driving and DIY skills to another round of house-sorting-out. Since they arrived, we have :
In the middle of it all,
kernowgirl visited, with husband R and friend G, who had always wanted to live in one of these houses. They were given the obligatory tour of the house, sat on the new sofa, and met Cheeky (whose real name I now know to be Dexter - and am going to ignore because 'Cheeky' is better). It probably all seemed somewhat chaotic to the three of them, but it is less chaotic each day, and I think will be looking quite passable by the time my house-warming party comes round.
*satisfied sigh*

- Bought, taken delivery of and assembled all the sofa in the world
- Bought and installed an armchair (which did not need assembly)
- Equipped both with suitable cushions
- Explored pretty well every furniture super-store we could find in both Bradford and Leeds
- Bought all the curtains I will need for my house. They are a dusky cream and smell exactly like scones
- Put up a rail for one set of them and hung them from it. The others await more ambitious plans
- Taken down some hideous cheap blinds in the lounge, the removal of which instantly made the whole room look lighter, larger and more sophisticated
- Put up nice rails to hang up some lovely white voile curtains I have with Roman emperors' heads printed on them instead
- Hung said voile curtains and begun to hem them to the right length
- Hung up five pictures
- Put up hooks on the bathroom and both main bedroom doors for dressing-gowns
- Mended the panels around the bath, which weren't fitting properly
- Put up a bathroom cabinet
- Put up a new shelf in my pantry
- Put up a key-board in my pantry (as in for hanging keys on, not playing music)
- Plastered and painted over a section of rendering at the back of the house which the BT guy damaged while installing my new phone-line
- Mended a light-fitting which was hanging down from the ceiling
- Mended four low-level lights in the kitchen walls which were not working
- Found some window-cleaners, got them to clean the outsides of all my windows, and arranged for them to do the same thing every 4 weeks in future
- Cleaned the inside of all the windows in the house
- Sawn up and disposed of a large fallen weeping-willow branch
- Planted 10 plants down the side of the house
- Collected ROCKS for a rockery I am going to build
- Sawn down trees and applied tree-stump killer to their roots
- Broken up a huge, rotten wooden platform that was leaning against my fence for no reason, and disposed of the pieces
- Taken lots of presently unwanted flower-pots up to the shed out of the way
In the middle of it all,
*satisfied sigh*

Date: Wednesday, 25 July 2007 22:01 (UTC)I can also assure all those people who haven't seen it yet that the house is both incredibly cool and comfortably lovely--as, indeed, are your parents. Very glad we visited, even if our timing left something to be desired!
