... but this isn't going to be a record of my daily deeds and thoughts - that stuff happens in my actual diary, which is PRIVATE (mwa-ha-ha-ha!).

I'm establishing this account, with thanks to the lovely [livejournal.com profile] stompyboots, merely so that I can post comments on other people's LiveJournals without having to be anonymous.

So don't bother checking back here for regular updates, 'cos there won't be any!

Have a nice day, now!

Thanks for my first ever LJ comment - I don't expect to get many more, either, due to the I-won't-actually-be-writing-a-diary-here factor.

But I have already added you to my friends list, so I will be reading your posts and occasionally commenting in the future!

BTW, where does your LJ nickname come from? It makes me think of Roman towns like Venta Silurum (now Caerwent), which means 'Market of the Silures'. Are you from such a town, or something?

Roman towns is exactly where it's at - I was (re)reading Rosemary Sutcliffe's kids novels set in Roman Britain when I created the journal, and since all the online monikers I'd used before were gone, it seemed like a good idea. I just liked the name.

I originally said I wouldn't write a diary either, then couldn't resist my own personal soapbox on the web :)

Hah - I _thought_ I had your number re the Roman towns!

As for the lure of a soapbox, well, we'll see what happens - I of course fully reserve the right to break my own rules!

S'pose this means I'd better actually write an update now. Grumble...

As always I'm sooo slow on the uptake...

Hi Penny, wonderful to see you have an LJ now, shame to see that you, like me don't actually intend to blog much of your life on here. Like we have the time!!

anyway I'll add you in my friends list, and solemnly promise to get in touch more often. COME AND SEE US SOMETIME!! 2-3 weeks until Baby arrival!!! and the removal of sanity in its place.

Hope you're well...

Paul.

Hi Paul!

Don't worry, I didn't discover you had an LJ until ages after I created mine. I think I saw a post by you in someone else's journal I was reading, or something.

I was wondering about the baby, actually, and knew it was due around nowish. And I have been meaning to arrange a weekend in the London area, catching up with you and also my friend Lowri whom I also haven't seen for ages. It's likely to be April or after before I can manage it, though: life is mighty busy with my teaching job at Warwick. I'm also supposed to be turning my thesis into a book at the moment, which is daunting and scary and time-consuming too.

Anyway, I will really _try_ to find time, to see both you and Chica, and the new baby when it arrives!

Penny

A book!!! coool I'll buy a copy (even if I can't understand it) I don't think I know any published Authors yet)

Hope it works out.

P.

Hi Penny

I didn't realise you had an LJ, till I saw you post on Tracey's journal. Would you mind if I added you to my friends list? (it is Stella here btw)

Wow! Long time no see! How are you? Yes, feel free to put me on your friends list. However, my entry about never actually posting in my live journal hasn't been contradicted yet, so I doubt there'll be much from me for you to read!

I just browsed through your LJ and your user page, and it sounds like life is going pretty well for you, which is good to hear. I'm working at the University of Warwick this year, and looking for stuff for next year. I just learnt I've got a job interview for a 3-year post at Nottingham at the end of April, so I'm crossing fingers for that.

Take care,
Penny

Yep, I think the last time I saw you was the Sheep on Drugs gig, seems like ages ago.

Things aren't going too badly for me, except for juggling the PhD with work & feeling a bit overwhelmed. I'm coping so far though.

Good luck for the job in Nottingham, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
