I am disappointed.
See, now that I live in my own house instead of a flat for the first time ever on Halloween, and in a reasonably family-ish neighbourhood, too, I figured I might get kids round trick-or-treating. So I was ready! I had a huge bowl full of yummy treats. And I made sure I left the porch light on, and all. But no children came. :-(
I wanted to ward off evil spirits with propitiatory offerings, dammit!
I guess now I will just have to eat all those sweets myself...

Date: Wednesday, 31 October 2007 22:19 (UTC)I have however, emailed my Study Abroad students in Italy to see when they'll be free to receive a pastoral visit, and the 8th December and following is looking good. Verona is near both Venice and Milan, both of which I'm keen to visit! I will email you when I've had a chance to devote a bit more thought to the fine details - but are you still interested on principle?

Date: Wednesday, 31 October 2007 23:44 (UTC)Granted, I'm giving them all bat-shaped pretzels instead of sweets. I've seen how much sugar kids get at Hallowe'en here, and I refuse to assist in such wanton tooth decay!

Date: Thursday, 1 November 2007 01:30 (UTC)At about 6.30 some small children knocked on my door in their Hallowe'en costumes (accompanied by an adult) and they all got a handful of sweets.
I sat back down wating for the next knock on the door but there was nothing for aaages.
It got to the stage when I thought it would be too late to be out trick or treating when at just after 8.30 another group of children turned up (again with an adult). I decided that they would likely be the last of the evening so they all got bumper handouts just to get rid of all the chocs! One even came back a few minutes later but he was very polite (if not a bit cheeky) so he got some more. Once his friends found out, they all came back.
So, in the end I got rid of most of the sweets and helped fuel the obesiry epidemic in children just a little bit. :)

Until the Police arrived, that is.

I hope there will be pictures of your costume. :-)

Date: Thursday, 1 November 2007 11:40 (UTC)The costume shall appear (prob. on facebook) after the event. Having been off work I've had a lot of time to put it together, and I'm quite proud of myself, actually doing sewing and all :)
