Nice rugs! And gorgeous cat - Burmese?

I love the lounge rug!

In the 10 seconds I had to imagine your house before getting to the pictures, I managed to build up a completely different impression of what it would look like - for some reason I was thinking more along the lines of Dumbledore's office, not so bright and light and airy and awe-inspiringly tidy

Aspasia is gorgeous - and appears to realise this :)

Nice pelmets. I'm not normally a fan of them, but they look really in keeping with the style of the house. I was wondering why your ceilings looked odd - then I noticed that there are no picture rails on the walls. I've got so used to them in houses with normal height ceilings (as opposed to the low ceilings of our previous converted bungalow).

Ooh, now I do like the idea that people might think of me as having a house a bit like Dumbledore's office! But no - in fact my house is an Art Deco semi, hence the sort of interior décor look I've tried to go for. There's a picture of the outside here (http://purple-pen.livejournal.com/207096.html), from when I first went to see it.

And I did tidy up a bit before taking those pictures!

Lovely! My family's had a blue, blue tortie and a Tonkinese (Burmese/Siamese cross). Some day I'll have a Burmese or a Siamese of my very own.

I will pass that comment on to my Dad, because he actually made the pelmets in both the lounge and dining-room for me! (The one in the bedroom was already there). He based his designs on templates in a 1930s DIY book, hence the in-character feel of them.

As for picture rails, having been round three of these houses during my house-hunting days, and another two since to visit neighbours, I'm pretty sure that none of them ever did have picture rails in the first place. I'm not sure how typical or a-typical that would have been for the time, though.

Yes, of course! I should love to have you over. How about maybe dinner for the two of you some time next week? We can talk about it tonight.

I wonder if it's because yours is more the 'streamlined' 1930's style, as opposed to the more traditional with Art Deco touches style of a lot of 1930's houses.

Mine has the farmhouse look and feel - big solid walls (it's all 9" thick brick, even the internal ones), but with the nice fireplaces in the 'reception' rooms. The bedroom fireplaces are pretty simple, quite small and functional.

Oh, that house is so very you! I love the wooden floorboards and the lounge rug ... you've managed to strike a lovely balance between clean minimalism and rich, old-fashioned style :)

Thanks! There are still a few more things I want to do with it - but it's definitely well on its way to being how I want it now. And I would never think of buying a rug like the one in the lounge normally - but in this house, I absolutely love it!

Fox!!! And that cat is absolutely beautiful! :)

The house looks wonderful - a sort of cosy minimalism. A look I would go for myself if I just didn't have so much stuff! :)

Thanks! It's getting easier to get the place looking tidy now that I have drawers and cupboards to actually put things in!
