The first teaser trailer has debuted on Apple.com, and you can see it here, in QuickTime format. It's very teensy-tiny, but it does look exciting, with a similar dark feeling to the previous film (both in its colour palette and its content).

Sadly no Snape - in fact I don't think I have even seen any stills of Snape from the new film yet. But then he's by no means the only character we haven't seen in a GoF context yet - other important ones including McGonagall, Hagrid, Barty Crouch Jr. and Mad-Eye Moody, to the best of my knowledge. So hopefully it doesn't mean he doesn't have much of a role, because he is pretty important to the plot.

Who would you cast as your ideal Sirius, then?

I've tried explaining this to people before, and they have a tendancy to not agree with me, but i think Viggo Mortenson would be perfect for the role, possibly more perfect if he didn't do lord of the rings because of the big hype competition between the films. He has that hard as nails, but pained and gentle approach which i think Gary Oldman lacks. I also think of Sirius as one of those characters who is going to be absolutely formidable in later books, and i just don't think that Gary Oldman is right for it. I know what happens in the latest book but i think there's something more to come from Sirius yet, and i don't think this casting makes it.

Actually, I just went to this page (http://specialrealms.com/VM/viggo.html) to consider the matter, and I can really see what you mean there. Viggo to me carries more of a possibility of having been young and good-looking at one point, and I think a young Viggo would have looked more as I imagine a young Sirius does than Gary Oldman.

And I definitely agree that we haven't seen the last of Sirius after book five!

I do think Gary would do 'formidable' well (given some of his other roles in films like Leon, Airforce One etc) and I love him as Sirius, but perhaps I'm a bit biased there :P

And I definitely think he'll be back, too :) There's no way Rowling can leave such an important and powerful character out of future events.

but don't you think he has a slightly sadistic and evil look in his eye that he can't seem to get rid of. Also what Penny said above about the younger character, i can picture viggo as being a lot more foolhardy than gary oldman who looks all together far too composed, and when they tried not to make him look composed in the last film it looked contrite.

True. I just put it down to 'having gone bananas' due to being cooped up in Azkaban for so long :P I did think the final scene with Harry was quite touching though, but I"m a sad old sentimentalist :)

I do think that if he was given a decent amount of scenes in this forthcoming film that he might be able to put more into the role but as it is, I think most of his stuff has been cut which is a real shame and prevents the character being developed. I'd rather see good characterisation and dialogue over a big exciting scene with broomsticks or monsters anyday but again that's just my own preference.
